Call For Papers

Healthcare delivery is transforming due to two interconnected trends. The first is the digitization of the healthcare system, which has led to an increasing number of opportunities for citizens and patients to access and submit their own data, including in the form of patient reported outcome data, and to use digital technologies to manage their own health and interact with healthcare professionals. This change is often called the healthcare system's new digital front door. At the same time, this digitization of healthcare means that there are now vast amounts of healthcare data available for the development of AI, with AI supporting citizens and patients to manage their own health and supporting the decision making of healthcare professionals. As we continue to navigate these advancements, critical questions arise: How do we understand the new healthcare system, which no longer only resides in physical locations? As healthcare moves beyond physical locations, how can we leverage AI to create meaningful and lasting social impact? What are the ethical considerations, risks, and challenges associated with AI-driven solutions, and how can we address them? What insights have we gained from recent experiences, and how can they shape the future of AI in health and beyond? 

The CSHI 2025 conference invites submissions on the theme "AI for Social Good," focusing on the role of AI and digital healthcare in enhancing health, well-being, and equity. Papers may explore this theme directly or more broadly as part of research on socio-technical systems and their impact on society in the following areas: 

• Contextual awareness and ergonomics in digital healthcare 

• Human and socio-technical factors in implementation and adoption of AI and digital healthcare  

• The impact of AI and the digital front door on the relationship between healthcare professionals and patients 

• Patient safety and equity considerations for AI and digital healthcare 

• Informatics and data management in AI and digital healthcare 

• Innovative AI technologies for patients and professionals, including those that support virtual and hybrid models of care 

We welcome paper submissions that align with the conference theme or address socio-technical systems more broadly. Papers with relevant and impactful contributions will help shape the agenda and discussions for this event. 

Publications

You are invited to submit a full paper (maximum of 5 pages, including references) on original research or work-in-progress relevant to the theme. Each submission should include an abstract (100-200 words). Accepted papers will be published in the web-only, fully open-access IOS Press series "Studies in Health Technology and Informatics" and indexed in PubMed. Papers should be formatted according to the IOS Press guidelines, which are available below.
