Context-sensitive health informatics: AI for social good

Context Sensitive Health Informatics
(CSHI)

Overview

Context Sensitive Health Informatics (CSHI) 2025 is the post-conference of MIE 2025, a key conference in the field of health and medical informatics. CSHI focuses on Human and Socio-technical approaches to health technology and healthcare delivery, and so attracts a large number of human factors and organisational researchers, those who work at the intersection of technology, humans and health systems.

The CSHI conference is co-organized every two years by the Human Factors Engineering - HFE and Organizational and Social Issues - OSI working groups of the International Medical Informatics Association - IMIA  and a local partner.  In 2025, the Centre for Digital Innovations in Health & Social Care at the University of Bradford will act as the local partner. The event will be held over 2 days, on the 23-24 May. Coinciding with Bradford being the 2025 UK City of Culture, this promises to be a wonderful event.

Location for CSHI 2023

Call for Papers

Healthcare delivery is transforming due to two interconnected trends. The first is the digitization of the healthcare system, which has led to an increasing number of opportunities for citizens and patients to access and submit their own data and to use digital technologies to manage their own health and interact with healthcare professionals. At the same time, this digitization of healthcare means that there are now vast amounts of healthcare data available for the development of AI, with AI supporting citizens and patients to manage their own health and supporting the decision making of healthcare professionals. As we continue to navigate these advancements, critical questions arise: How do we understand the new healthcare system, which no longer only resides in physical locations? As healthcare moves beyond physical locations, how can we leverage AI to create meaningful and lasting social impact? What are the ethical considerations, risks, and challenges associated with AI-driven solutions, and how can we address them? What insights have we gained from recent experiences, and how can they shape the future of AI in health and beyond?

We welcome submissions that focus on the theme, or socio-technical systems more broadly.

Accepted papers will be published in a web-only, full open access IOS Press series of 'Studies in Health Technology and Informatics' and indexed in PubMed. Head over here for more information.

History of CSHI

The CSHI conference is co-organised every two years by the Human Factors Engineering - HFE and Organisational and Social Issues - OSI working groups of IMIA

CSHI is the result of the merger between the sociotechnical conferences that were started in conjunction with Medinfo and ICT in Health Care (ITHC).

With support from Aalborg University, the first merged conference was held in 2010 in Aalborg. Below are some images of the journey:
